Canadian gift to Hanover Park

Since 2011, the Perinatal Mental Health Project has provided a mental health service  integrated into the Hanover Park Midwife Obstetric Unit (MOU) in Cape Town, where counsellors offer mental health information, screening, counselling, case management and follow-up care to women in this under-resourced community attending antenatal and postnatal care.

Recognising the vulnerability of pregnant and postpartum women in this community, the PMHP strives to provide a space for effective care and recovery, with a comprehensive mental health service, where without donor support such a service would not exist.  The provision of a safe space, both physically and psychologically, gives women the opportunity to prioritise their mental health and draw on their resilience and capabilities.

A Canadian family, with UCT connections, has been a steadfast supporter of the work of the PMHP, and recently made a beautiful gift of a mosaic bench to the Hanover Park MOU.
