Chairman's Report

Since my last message in January 2009 many exciting UCT events have occurred.

The opening performance of Tshepang by Lara Foot Newton on Wednesday 18th February 2009 in the Studio Theatre, Harbourfront Centre, Toronto was organized by Professor Marcia Blumberg who also gave a pre-theatre talk. The 150 people who attended were also invited to a reception to meet the cast. The event raised $3 660, which was donated to the University of Cape Town’s Baxter Theatre Centre in support of the Ikhwezi Community Theatre Festival, which supports new artists, writers and directors.

Di Stafford, Regional Director Development & Alumni Relations of the University of Cape Town, organized a breakfast meeting for Dr Simone Honikman, Director of the Perinatal Mental Health Unit, on Saturday 7th March 2009 attended by 14 alumni and friends. The PMHP provides training of healthcare practitioners, and the screening and counseling of pregnant women in distress. [Read More]
