“Here I stand, 10 years later”. This was my opening remark at the Vancouver alumni event in November last year. It struck me how fast time flies. We have been maintaining connections through events and correspondence going into the 11th year now. When I say ‘we’ I mean both myself and ‘my alumni’ together. I thank you all for the support and enthusiasm you have shown in attending events, and responding to calls for support.
Over the past few years, Canadian medical alumni have annually supported as many as four students a year with their MBChB fees. Alumni have supported Humanities bursaries, Postgraduate bursaries, Sports and Nursing bursaries, and the Students in Distress Fund. Annually around 50 students receive support from Canadian alumni. Thank you all for the confidence you have shown in the stewardship of your gifts and in the excellence and high standards of education that UCT upholds.
The last few years have been difficult on campus, as you all know. Our new Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng brings a new energy and enthusiasm to her position. I have included a link to her newly-published Vision which I am sure you will find inspiring. I am hoping she will pay us a visit soon so you can all meet her first-hand.
Please enjoy the compilation I have presented below. Should you follow the links and find yourself on the UCT website – take delight in many of the reports on research being undertaken, innovations and student activities. .
With best wishes for a Splendid Summer!
