During May Prof Hugh Corder (Dean of Law) visited Toronto and addressed alumni at a dinner hosted by Henry and Marcia Blumberg. He spoke on Judicial activism in South Africa.

A gala premiere and reception attended by alumni and friends was held on the Opening Night of the Bouffes du Nord production of “Sizwe Banzi is Dead / Sizwe Banzi est mort”, directed by renowned theatre artist, Peter Brook. Approximately 75 alumni and friends attended the event at the Enwave Theatre at the Harbourfront Centre.

World Health Ranking Honour for UCT

The University of Cape Town (UCT) has been ranked 72nd in the world for clinical, pre-clinical and health in the 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings by subject.

A further three subjects were ranked: psychology was placed in the 101-125 band (only the top 100 are given specific places in the THE rankings), life sciences ranked 151-175, and physical sciences ranked 301-400. []

UCT’s new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng’s welcome to the University Community
