How would you like to have an impact on the emotional well-being of new mothers?
The Perinatal Mental Health Program run through the University of Cape Town can help with that.
UCT’s Perinatal Mental Health Project is run at the grassroots level by a team of concerned experts in their field. Their programs work with young expectant mothers, train midwives and nursing staff, and are now expanding their services beyond Cape Town.
Being a new mother in a situation of poverty, domestic violence, and illness can be so frightening with no solution or coping mechanisms available. Life can seem very dark. The PMHP website tells real life stories of the life raft the program offers to many young mothers living in poverty in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
In honour of Mother’s Day this weekend, I ask that you join me and fellow Canadian alumni in supporting this passionate program. See the results at www.pmhp.za.org.
