If you have already booked - thank you. You are in for a great night of riveting theatre.

Here is the information for the special Opening fundraiser, pre-show presentation and post-show opportunity to meet the cast :

Tickets are selling fast for the opening of Yael Farber’s Mies Julie, winner of the best play on The Fringe at the 2012 Edinburgh Festival (from over a thousand plays). A Baxter Theatre Centre in association with the South African State Theatre production, Mies Julie has since toured around the world to rave reviews.

Mies Julie is being presented by the Harbourfront Theatre from 6 to 10 May 2014 as part of World Stage.

Yael Farber has reworked Strindberg’s ‘Miss Julie’ (1888) and set it in South Africa on Freedom Day 2012 on a farm in the Karoo. The play explores many issues – race, class, land ownership, and problems of the present time in South Africa that have not been addressed properly since the advent of democracy in 1994. The production is powerful, explicit and cutting edge.

A fundraiser on the evening of Tuesday May 6th 2014 will be held in aid of the Baxter Theatre Centre, University of Cape Town. The cost is $70 per ticket.

The program :

7 - 7.30 pm A talk by Dr Marcia Blumberg on Strindberg’s play and the many changes Yael has created to revision the play so as to make it relevant and urgent at the present time in the South African setting. (Venue: Marilyn Brewer Community Space at York Quay Centre, 235 Queens Quay West- very near to the theatre).

8 - 9.30 pm The production of Mies Julie in the Enwave Theatre.

Join us for an after-show reception for refreshments and a chance to meet the actors.

A block of 200 tickets has been set aside for this fundraiser. Tickets for this performance will be reserved on a first come, first served basis. Tickets can be purchased from Di Stafford at 289 997 4965. They can be charged on VISA or Mastercard.

Enquiries about the play and production can be made by emailing Marcia at

Parking at Harbourfront is conveniently situated in a new underground parking garage very near to the Enwave Theatre. Elevators make it easily accessible. There are only 4 other performances of the play in Toronto.

Please spread the word amongst alumni and friends. This is a very special event.
