This is the final call for bookings for the Toronto Alumni Event where past member of the UCT Council and past President of UCT Convocation, Mary Burton, will be addressing alumni on recent events on the UCT campus.

Mary Burton became active in the Black Sash in 1965 and served as its national president from 1985 to 1990. Born in Buenos Aires, Mrs Burton became a South African citizen in 1994. She was appointed to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and served on its Human Rights Violations Committee 1995. Mrs Burton is currently the Trustee of Black Sash, the 59 year old veteran human rights organisation whose current programmes draw on a rich institutional heritage of advocating for social justice in South Africa.
Mary Burton has served as a member of the UCT Council from 1990 to 1996, Deputy Chairperson from 1999 to 2005 and more recently as President of UCT Convocation from 2011-2015. She is Honorary Research Associate at the Centre for African Studies at the University of Cape Town.
